Photography session styling for your family doesn’t need to be onerous. Wardrobe choices can really make a difference in your final images, and can take them from looking good, to stunning. I keep a studio wardrobe of pieces for moms and little ones, which clients are welcome to use for their sessions.
For moms, you are the star of the show (well yes, your kids are too, but you deserve to look amazing as well!). I carry both maternity dresses and other pieces which are flattering for after baby is born, or for family and motherhood sessions. My carefully selected pieces come in neutral tones and textured fabrics which photograph beautifully.
Some great places to find beautiful pieces for moms are Free People, ASOS, Zara, Forever 21, Morning Lavender, H&M, Vici Dolls, PinkBlush and Nordstrom.
For baby girls and boys, a cute romper, dress, or overalls in muted and pastel tones can look really lovely and allow for those sweet baby details (e.g. think cute toes and cheeky rolls) to be captured.
Dads and boy siblings often have what they need in their closet. A white, grey, or light blue Henley tee, or button down, paired with khaki pants or shorts looks great. Try to keep the boys consistent in terms of how formal of pieces you select. You can find pieces like those pictured below at H&M, the Gap, Old Navy and Banana Republic.
Little girls look sweet in white or muted dresses or rompers. Simple is better, avoid loud colours and distracting patterns as well as big bows and accessories. Look for little details like lace and dainty florals. Some of my favourite places to find sweet little girl pieces are H&M, Zara and even Amazon!
It is sometimes easiest to start with mom’s outfit, and build from there. Try to keep your colour choices complimentary, but not too matchy matchy. This allows for everyone’s individuality to shine through in your images.
If you have booked a session with me, I am happy to provide photography session styling for your whole family. I love to work with clients to help them select their wardrobe pieces!
